Switzerland
If you choose to visit Switzerland, you certainly won’t be disappointed – this landlocked country has a captivating culture and rich history just waiting to be explored. At the foot of the Alps, nestled between the hills and Lake Geneva, Montreux is a lovely town featuring beautiful Belle Époque influence. Nearby is the world-renowned and incredibly well-preserved medieval island fortress Chillon Castle, offering an insight into murals of the 14th century, and slightly further afield, the historical town of Gruyeres, famous for its cheese, with its own medieval fortress dating back to the 13th century. These popular places, as well as wonderful hidden gems like the Tell Monument, dedicated to Swiss national hero William Tell, truly make this country what it is – historic, beautiful, and preserved in the most special ways. Take Switzerland by rail onboard the famous Bernina Regional Railway, Swiss Glacier Express, or venture on the world's steepest cogwheel railway going up the Pilatus! There are endless options to see the sights, including the world’s first Cabrio cable car, Stanserhorn Cable Car, the world’s first revolving gondola, the Titlis Rotair Cable Car, and the Hammetschwand Lift, climbing over 150m to see the most spectacular views over Lake Lucerne and the Alps. From rail experiences and river cruises to magical festive holidays, see these unforgettable sights on one of our expertly curated escorted tours.

Pilatus Railway

Montreux
Chillon Castle
Step into Swiss history at Chillon Castle! This island fortress on Lake Geneva has seen it all: battles, banquets, and Byron – who wrote his poem ‘The Prisoner of Chillon’ about the castle’s imprisonment of François Bonivard. Once home to the Counts of Savoy, today it’s packed with tales of the past, from ancient armour to captivating décor.
Promenade
Take a walk on the lively side! Montreux’s promenade stretches along Lake Geneva, where blooming flowers, buzzing cafés, and eye-catching art make every step a delight. And for Queen fans? Don’t miss Freddie Mercury’s iconic statue – a rockin’ tribute in a truly legendary spot!

Beautiful Town
Tucked at the foot of the Matterhorn, Zermatt is oh so charming – think cosy bakeries, chalet-lined streets, and no traffic since '61! Wander this car-free wonderland and soak up the beauty – there's nowhere else quite like it.
Destinations to dream about...
Food and Drink
One of the best things about travelling? The food, of course! Every destination has its own favourites – the dishes locals swear by and visitors can’t stop talking about. To make things easier, we’ve picked out four must-try treats from this region, with a little flavour of what they’re all about.
So… which one’s making your mouth water?
Cheese Fondue
Switzerland’s love affair with cheese is no secret, and fondue is one of the most iconic (and delicious) ways to enjoy it. This alpine classic melts together a mix of Swiss cheeses – often Gruyère and Emmental – with garlic, white wine, and a dash of nutmeg, then keeps it warm and gooey over a candle or burner.
Rösti
Rösti is a Swiss favourite that is often compared to hash browns! Made by grating potatoes and shaping them into a flat cake, it’s then fried to perfection in plenty of butter and oil until golden and crunchy on the outside, soft and fluffy within. It’s sometimes mixed with onion, sage, cheese for extra flavour.
Papet Vaudois
Straight from the Swiss canton of Vaud, Papet Vaudois is a rustic winter warmer that’s as comforting as it is delicious. This traditional dish combines creamy leeks and soft potatoes simmered slowly in stock and white wine to create a rich, savoury hotpot. The star of the show? A plump, smoked sausage nestled on top.
Swiss Chocolate
When it comes to chocolate, Switzerland truly sets the gold standard. From the honeyed peaks of Toblerone to the silky sweetness of Lindt and the heritage-rich Cailler (now part of Nestlé), these iconic brands have helped put Swiss chocolate on the global map.
