Italy
Holding the record for the most UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Italy is not a country to underestimate – from Northern Italy to the south, there are spectacular architectural gems and stunning landscapes around every corner.
See an ancient city frozen in time and learn the story behind its tragic destruction with a visit to the massive archaeological site of Pompeii, or gaze at the glistening, clear waters of Lake Garda, the largest of the Italian lakes. Indulge in the hidden delights of Tuscany, exploring the monuments and fountains of its capital city, Florence, or pay a visit to the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa – don’t forget your camera!
For sun-dappled coastlines and the most incredible, traditional architecture, the town of Sorrento is a delight to explore. Home to the hugely popular Limoncello factory, visitors get an authentic look into the production of this signature drink.
Food is also a huge part of the country’s culture – and any Italy holiday must include the traditional tastes of the country. With all of this to see and more, Italy is the perfect destination for you to find excitement, beauty and history.

Go on holiday, not a research expedition
We've rounded up some of the very best sights to make planning your next adventure a breeze...
Lake Como
Como
At the southwest tip of the lake, Como is flaunting its fabulousness with lush green hills that could make anyone just as green with envy! The main square, Pizza Duomo, is bursting with Italian flair, featuring the fabulous Como Cathedral right in the centre.
Tremezzo
Tremezzo, snugly nestled along the western banks of Lake Como, is the proud host of the stunning Villa Carlotta. This villa’s botanical garden is a lush paradise filled with ancient trees, palm trees, and a floral fiesta featuring rhododendrons and azaleas.
Lake Garda
Riva del Garda
At the northern tip of the lake, Riva del Garda is like a painter's palette exploded into a charming little town! With its vibrant buildings and medieval towers standing tall, the waterfront cafés are the ideal spots for people-watching.
Malcesine
Malcesine is a charming jumble of narrow streets that twist like spaghetti and an ancient harbour that’s seen more boats than a fish market. But the real star of the show is the 13th-century Scaligeri Castle, where a climb up the tower rewards adventurers with gorgeous views.
Sirmione
Sirmione might as well wear a crown for being the prettiest town on Lake Garda! Scaliger Castle, complete with a gorgeous turquoise moat, invites everyone to climb up the tower, rewarding adventurers with breathtaking views that are sure to inspire plenty of "oohs" and "aahs!"
Rome
Trevi Fountain
A visit to Rome wouldn’t be complete without seeing the Trevi Fountain. With Neptune posing on his chariot like a model on a catwalk, visitors can toss a coin into the water to secure their golden ticket back to this glorious city.
Colosseum
Step right up to the Colosseum, the ancient arena where Romans cheered for gladiators, gasped at exotic animals, and witnessed the occasional prisoner send-off. With a capacity of 65,000, it was the place to be in its heyday, but today, it’s Italy’s superstar attraction.
Vatican City
Nestled in the heart of Rome, the Vatican is the tiniest independent state you’ll ever encounter, ruled by the Pope himself! And let’s not forget the Vatican Museums – an art treasure trove that spans from Roman trinkets to religious wonders.
Sorrento
Old Town
Wandering through Sorrento's historic centre feels like stepping into a living postcard, with its narrow, cobblestone streets bursting with artisan workshops, boutiques, and the irresistible scent of limoncello wafting from the shops! Stopping for a coffee in the lively Piazza Tasso is a must – perfect for people-watching!
Marina Grande
Marina Grande, with a name that translates to ‘big marina,’ would you believe us if we told you it’s actually the smaller of Sorrento’s two marinas? With its volcanic sand beach and a waterfront sprinkled with delightful restaurants, it’s a must-visit for anyone craving a bite and some fresh air.
Colister of San Francesco
Once upon a time in the 7th century, a monastery popped up in Sorrento, and now the cloister has since become a dazzling blend of architectural styles. And right in the middle, there’s a distinctive tree, providing a fabulous backdrop for lovebirds tying the knot.
Tuscany
Pisa
Sure, everyone knows about Pisa's Leaning Tower, but this city is a treasure chest of architectural wonders! The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta shows off its Pisan-Romanesque flair, while the stunning Piazza dei Miracoli features not just the tower, but also the Duomo and baptistery.
Florence
Florence, the vibrant capital of Tuscany, is bursting with stunning architecture and a mix of historical treasures that could keep anyone entertained for days. Within the Uffizi Palace and Gallery, artworks by Botticelli, Caravaggio, and Titian await, each ready to steal the show in this artistic arena!
Siena
Siena, snugly tucked in the stunning rolling hills of Tuscany, is a cosy hotspot filled with artistic and historical goodies. The Duomo di Siena proudly showcases its Gothic style, while the Piazza del Campo is the ultimate hangout for soaking up the city’s enchanting ambience.
Destinations to dream about...
Food and Drink
One of the best things about travelling? The food, of course! Every destination has its own favourites – the dishes locals swear by and visitors can’t stop talking about. To make things easier, we’ve picked out four must-try treats from this region, with a little flavour of what they’re all about.
So… which one’s making your mouth water?
Ragù alla Bolognese
Often known abroad as spaghetti bolognese, or to us Brits ‘spag bol’, Italy’s national dish is properly called ragù alla bolognese. This slow-cooked dish uses ingredients like minced beef, pork, tomatoes, wine, onions, carrots, and celery. Traditionally served with tagliatelle rather than spaghetti, it’s best enjoyed in its homeland.
Pizza Margherita
Simple, fresh, and bursting with flavour, pizza margherita is one of the classic Neapolitan pizzas – and a symbol of Italy’s culinary pride. Round with a puffed, golden crust, it’s traditionally topped with hand-crushed peeled tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, fresh basil leaves, and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil.
Risotto
Risotto is a northern Italian classic that turns humble rice into something truly special. Cooked slowly in a savoury broth and stirred to perfection, it develops a velvety texture that’s pure indulgence. One of the most famous versions is risotto alla Milanese – a golden-hued variation infused with saffron.
Tiramisu
Layered, luxurious, and loved the world over, tiramisu is Italy’s iconic dessert that lives up to its name – ‘pick me up'. Made with coffee-soaked ladyfingers, whipped mascarpone, and a hint of liqueur, it’s topped with a dusting of cocoa for that final flourish.
